The following are excellent ways to identify artists who are appropriate to work in your school:

• Search the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES ARTS IN EDUCATION RESOURCE DIRECTORY and WEBSITE.
• Check the BOCES Monthly CALENDAR on the ARTS IN EDUCATION WEBSITE, telephone the "contact" person to be certain that the program will take place, attend the program to preview artists' work in a school before an audience of students.

PLEASE NOTE: You are not limited to the artists /organizations listed in the ARTS IN EDUCATION RESOURCE WEBSITE. Any artist / arts organization can be contracted through BOCES as long as the service provided supports the goals of your school’s arts curriculum and New York State Learning Standards for the Arts. We encourage you to find new artists, which uniquely meet your needs. If they are successful, send us your recommendation along with their name, e-mail address and telephone number and we will invite them to participate in the AIE website.

PREVIEW: We have made every effort to identify talented, effective and knowledgeable artists and to include them in the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES ARTS IN EDUCATION RESOURCE DIRECTORY and on the WEBSITE. However, before contracting for any services we strongly advise that you try to preview artists' work.

REFERENCES: We have asked each artist/organization to submit names and telephone numbers of educators who are familiar with their work in schools. Be sure to contact these individuals and discuss with them both the quality of the artist's work and his/her ability to interact effectively with students.

Look for less popular but equally excellent programs, which may be less expensive.
